Vizo Luxon Advanced

Luxon Advanced is an external enclosure that can host either one IDE or SATA drive and then connect it to your computer either with eSATA or USB2.0. Even if you insert an IDE drive you can still run the Luxon with eSATA connection to your computer.

It is a good looking product with an activity led lit by a dual colour led giving you blue when it is on and has no activity while it turns purple when it is working.

I’m both satisfied with the accessories while I’m not satisfied with the length of the cables that connect Luxon with your computer. You will probably need to place Luxon on top of or by the side of your computer for the cable to reach.

The inside of Luxon is made of plastic and while it looks good, functions and all, it may increase the temperature of the external enclosure due to bad ventilation and no heat transfer areas.

Update 2008-01-08
On the following picture you can see holes in the bottom of the metal casing which is vents where the heat can get out. However, the same with candles and fire the heat goes upwards and then cold air naturally goes downwards.

The vents that's found in the bottom will not do any direct difference to temperature other than it can push out the heat when there is too much of it inside the enclosure, but then it is probably enough hot anyway.

All in all, if you need an external enclosure and don’t need it to be on LAN connection, give you raid options or superior cooling and just need the full speed of eSATA connection.

Then this is the product for you.

I would like to thank Jill at Vizo for sending us the samples.
